One of the all-time best selling entry level High Fidelity Amplifiers ever produced. The 3020 is legendary.
The 3020A (1982) was the 2nd iteration of the design which improved on some shortcomings related to crosstalk on the original PCB. The 3020B followed in the 90's where the design included the 'newer style' binding posts which have since become the de-facto standard.
We can modify this amp with Gold Binding Posts for an additional $87.
This integrated amp has been brought 'next level' by the inclusion of several modifications to the design including Polyester Stacked Film capacitors in critical audio path areas and an improved main power supply with Polyester Stacked Film compliment.
All the output transistors were removed, tested and replaced with modern lifetime silicone heat transfer pads for better thermal transfer and longer component life.
During the final calibration of the amplifier; Idle Current, Bias and Offset, precision potentiometers were installed to enable these adjustments to be dialed in with high precision and stability.
This is a 3020 at it's best in terms of sonic performance and taking an already solid design to the next level with modern parts selection and cost no object mentality that an OEM cannot afford to have and stay marketable in the products target audience.
This is an antique and on the cosmetics end there are several flaws that can be seen in the pictures. We have done our best to remedie some flaws to a degree but these faceplates are a bit fragile at this age and one needs to know when to say when ;)
The cover has a brand new hand hammered finish that matches closely the NAD scheme and is an absolutely flawless finish on this restore!
The performance is a definite 10/10 after significant listening tests in our shop over a 45 day period. The phono section is especially lovely with its refined presentation and a moving coil section that is so detailed and really brings the potential of cartridge selections into a much higher arena.
The Power Amp section has enough reserve to give convincing low end power when needed, even into a set of 6 ohm B+W's we had connected for a couple weeks and some 4 ohm Maggies that are known to be power hungry. Aside from low end delivery, this amp has a refined high end presentation at the same time and with the right source produces a very convincing soundstage!
